The Tin Ensemble

Sound Performance | 2019 | 30 min.

The Tin Instrument Ensemble by Gal Amoyal is the result of an extensive studio-based exploration, encompassing collection, deconstruction, reconstruction, and attentive listening to raw materials.
Seemingly lifeless metal scraps, tin, and aluminum were carefully welded together, forming hybrid monumental sculptures that function as orchestral instruments.

The ensemble’s musicians work in harmony to breathe life into the frozen monuments, allowing them to resonate with their inherent materiality and give sound to their form. The music takes shape in the material, creating a dialogue between the visual and the sonic, the seen and the heard. Throughout the performance, water droplets fall from a central object onto an amplified tin cube. This diminishing and slowing drip becomes the orchestra’s beating heart, setting the pace and guiding the musicians until the final moment — the last drop.
